New Years 2012-13

It'll be a while before we forget (as if that will happen) this New Years. Thanks to Nate and Darla for coming... and for their support in all the events!
I got sick again before they came after starting my antibiotics in Texas.
We started out our visit with some awesome prime rib at Fat Boys Saturday night-  came home and gave the 3 kids baths. Everybody had a blast.
Sunday morning Nate woke up sick. We went to Special Meeting- and on the way in, Terry slipped on the ice while he had Gabriel. :-/ Gabriel had a horrible rest of the day (which is an understatment). We had Gary Gasser check him out because he was so fussy, and he was able to check a pressure point in his head to reassure us it was not a head injury. That night he was cold and clammy. We knew that we all had had the flu, and figured he could probably still be dizzy from the fall. Monday he woke up some better, but still would cling to your neck when you held him and cry. So we would hold him close and he would be happy and comfortable if we just loved him up. We got nervous, so we called the clinic. They said likely the fall had nothing to do with it- just a ton of bugs were going around and he hadn't pooped for quite a few days so to try and bring his knees to his chest to help constipation. Well the day went on. Rhya got sick and puked all over. We got Gabriel up and on the potty which was quite an accomplishment, so we forgot about Brielle- so she went off and pooped on the floor. (I read Darla's blog and I had totally forgotten about Sakari's accident!!!) well-let us tell you, we really are not attached to our house or stuff to care one measly stitch about that!!! Well... we tried and tried to comfort Gabriel all day. We noticed how he would be content, but could not handle diaper changes, or the changing of hands with who held him. But - we couldn't figure it out. About 730, Terry was trying to do the knees to chest thing, and that is when he heard a clunk in Gabriel's leg. He had Nate come check and see if he could hear it. Yup, he did too. I paniked. He called Bonnie and she called our pediatrician and told him that we wondered if we had knocked his hip out. He said to take him to ER right away because it could be a fracture. So- we all packed up (yes- thank you Nate and Darla for coming with us!) and headed to ER to spend our New Years Eve!
This is what they found. :( A broken femur.
The ER dr, nurse, and a paramedic put Gabriel in this temporary splint. His pain was instantly relieved when the paramedic
pulled his leg down- put the leg in traction.

NEW YEARS DAY

Well- Gabriel was much better, but still needing his tylenol every 4-6 hours. But- Terry woke up sick and couldn't even come downstairs. He was sick all day. But-  the rest of us tried to have a good day anyway. :)
Rhya got to watch Gabriel get his splint put on. So, on Tuesday, Rhya was playing- helping all of our legs feel better by wrapping them up with Auntie Sarah's moby. Dr. Lester poses for the camera :)

We would take turns entertaining Gabriel because now he gets extremely bored not being able to move! Thanks Uncle Nate for taking his turn! (and thanks Brielle for your blanket because it was too hurtful to try to get clothes on Gabriel!)

And let's not forget Mollie!! Seriously, how could that be comfortable?
JANUARY 2nd 2013

The Orthopedist's nurse called at 7:55 to see if we would come in as soon as we could that morning to get Gabriel out of his temporary splint and into his new pavlik harness that he'd be wearing for probably 6 weeks. We will go in every week for x-rays to see how the healing process is going.
Pavlik harness. A little more painful than the splint because it keeps him more mobile. But, we're sure the orthopedist knows more about healing bones than we do- and this is his prefered healing method! We are giving him tylenol every 4-6 hours still to keep his pain under control.

The dr also prescribed tylenol with codine. Because constipation is a side-effect, we try to get along with just regular tylenol. But, since it was quite painful for Gabriel to get out of his splint and into his pavlik harness, the orthopedist suggested giving him a couple doses of the codine. We thought for sure it would make him crash. This is our child on tylenol with codine:

The carseat is one of the favorite places again. Holds his leg in place. Until he gets bored of course :/ Poor kid!

Gma Bonnie came to visit at work while Mommy was busy washing cars! This was way better than being stuck in the pack and play!!

Happy New Year Everyone! --- hope the year gets better and better!!

This is just a miscellaneous picture I found from who knows when of Mollie in her awkward sitting position. She must be on daddy's lap, but there wasn't quite enough room. :)

  1. Poor Gabriel! Bet he's soaking up the extra snuggles, though.
